Veolia Bulgaria took part in the National Conference "Zero Energy Buildings: The Future is Today"

Mariana Iteva, Deputy Country Director of Veolia for Bulgaria participated in the national forum held from 31st May to 2nd June 2023 in Burgas. The event was organized by the Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect and the Municipal Energy Efficiency Network EcoEnergy, with the support of the Municipality of Burgas.

The conference emphasized several points concerning the role of the state and the local authorities in the implementation of the European and national policies on climate and energy and the good practices for energy efficiency.

At the forum, Mrs. Iteva shared Veolia’s experience in Bulgaria and across the world in reducing energy and water consumption through the use of Hubgrade. This is a smart system for monitoring and successful optimization of the energy consumption and management of the customers’ water cycle. Hubgrade is a "system for monitoring, analysis and reduction of the energy and water usage, which allows to measure and optimize the efficiency of buildings and technical infrastructure for achieving energy and water savings," noted Mariana Iteva before the participants in the National Conference.

The Deputy Country Director of Veolia Bulgaria put a special focus on working examples from Veolia’s experience in Toulouse and Paris of decarbonization of the district heating services through effective use of geothermal heat and reduction of the share of fossil fuels used. She clarified the key levers in support of geothermal district heating networks in France and how the price of geothermal heat can be affordable and sustainable. And, in Bulgaria "geothermal energy – a local, accessible and renewable resource, should be exploited as much as possible," Mariana Iteva highlighted.

What else Mrs. Iteva said about geothermal energy can be heard in the recording of the interview for BNR Burgas.
